Keep your highlighter handy. Harold Bell Wrights’s books, including “Eyes of the World” are filled with intelligently written points of wisdom to which you will want to refer. These are not merely ‘religious’ books, but are well written novels that will hold your attention. His subjects are all anchored on a knowledgeable patron with much experience and wisdom; a Pollyanna or two; some evil arch-villains and their surrounding ilk; and a young hero. But they are not melodramatic. His cliffhangers can be several chapters of breathlessness.HBW wrote about the things he knew well; art, mountains and people. His attention to detail can tend to be a bit long. As a preacher, his novels always contain a bit of moral teaching. Don’t let that throw you. HBW is a highly accomplished author, and his writings well worth keeping on the book shelf.

The Eyes of the World eBook Harold Bell Wright Reviews
Very good book! I think it is one of those books everyone should have and read. The message is clear and something we really need to think about.
This is a book I found through and was fascinated by the high review recommendations. I gave it a 4, debating a 5, because I found the early part of the book slow reading and a bit tedious, but not so much that I lost interest. Momentum did increase and rather rapid like a snowball down a mountain at the end. It is an older style of writing, which may account for that. As someone who lives in Southern California and knows of the mountain ranges, I felt fascinated by the wonderful descriptions of the mountains and towns as they exhisted in the past. There is a good plot which balances an artist young man, who meets an innocent girl playing a mystical violin that inspires the artistic talent of the artist complicated by a nasty character who vies for her affections. After a rollercoaster of events of cliff hanging style, the hero saves the heroine and all ends well with the good people staying true to their goodness. It was a joyful ending and a feel good book that will make you glad you read it. I have already ordered another of his books.
It is true to life even now some 80 plus years after it was written. Some of his imagery fits the time that it was written but it certainly applies to how people react to events today. I think that Harold Bell Wright was a man before his times. His novels are as pertinent to life today as when they were written. This is the second or third time that I have read most of them.
This story is old fashioned as are its characters, the good ones and the bad. Its themes of life and love are folded artfully, yet without artistry, into as engaging a story as any I have ever been told or ever read.
It took a while to get into the story but it did turnout to be ok. Contrasts those who live lives of conspicuous consumption with those who sought to fill their lives with wholesome pursuits.
This was the best seller for 1914. Many of the best sellers in the early 1900's were romance novels, and this is one also. Besides not liking romance novels, the book didn't offer very much insight of the history and lifestyle of that time.
This book was written a long time ago, and today's readers would be well advised to read and re-read some paragraphs again. Words of wisdom for all times and all places. Character, integrity, self control, not to mention high adventure and deviousness, lies, and disreputable folks too. Also some humor all make this book a highly recommended by me. Thank you for this book that was free to me at the time.
